It's true that Nigerian students are hopeful to return back to school following an alleged news that schools have been slated to resume on the 8th of June, 2020.

It's obvious that Nigerian students are tired of staying at home and will love the Federal Government to reopen schools as soon as possible.

Without thwarting the hope of students, here some indices that should suffice the uncertainty surrounding resumption of schools. With this facts below you should be able to know that the Federal Government of Nigeria haven't set a specific date for resumption of schools.

-As at today there's no official notice by the Federal Government body stating that schools will reopen in June.

The assumption that schools are resuming in June is probably based on initial notice given by the government in back in March, instructing all 104 schools unity schools in Nigeria to close on before 26th of March, for one month.

The official facebook page of the federal ministry of education, clearly refuted claims that the resumption of schools in June is fake news.

Also the minister of state for education Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has also stated clearly that the news of schools reopening is not yet validated. And there is no confirmation from higher authorities that schools will actually resume on the 8th of June, 2020.

-Increasing number Coronavirus index cases;

With the increasing cases of coronavirus recorded daily in Nigeria, Nigerians might need to start bracing themselves up for a total lockdown. Otherwise the country might see an exceptional increase exponential increase in the number of cases if school resumes. As at today Nigeria stands as the third country in Africa with highest coronavirus cases, having 8068 total confirmed cases.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), have not released any recent guidelines or preventive measures for reopening of schools, if the news of schools resumption were true.

In conclusion, since the Federal Government is yet to set a specific date for resumption of schools in the country, Parents and students should not believe any rumour until the federal government releases an official statement on the reopening of schools.
