Lagos State has recorded 62 fresh coronavirus infections as the total lockdown in the state ends Sunday , The PUNCH reports.
The gradual easing of lockdown in the nation ’ s commercial capital begins Monday , May 4, as ordered by the President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd . ) .
But the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control during its daily update via Twitter on Saturday night disclosed that the total confirmed cases in the state had risen to 1068, about half of the total infections reported in the country.
“ 220 new cases of COVID - 19; 62 – Lagos , 52 – FCT, 31 – Kaduna , 13 – Sokoto , 10 – Kebbi, 9 – Yobe , 6 – Borno , 5 – Edo , 5 – Bauchi , 4 – Gombe , 4 – Enugu , 4 – Oyo , 3 – Zamfara , 2 – Nasarawa , 2 – Osun, 2 – Ebonyi , 2 – Kwara , 2 – Kano, 2 – Plateau , ” the Centre stated , adding that the total number of cases in the country had risen to 2388 with 385 recoveries and 85 deaths.

The state Health Ministry said on Saturday that 247 recoveries and 25 fatalities have been reported so far .
As Lagos enters the phased easing of lockdown some twenty - four hours from the time of filing this report , Governor Babajide Sanwo - Olu has issued a number of guidelines to further prevent the community transmission of the lethal virus .
The guidelines include those for public transportation , funerals, work hours, amongst others while schools and other public places like mosques , churches, event centers , cinemas , bars, casinos , day and night clubs , as well as beaches remain closed till further notice .
The governor also stressed that inter- state movement is banned in compliance with the order of the President restricting state-to -state movement till further notice .
Residents of the state have been asked to wear face masks in public places , observe social distancing and good personal hygiene as they join efforts with the state and federal government in curbing the spread of the infection .
