The most recent ones are the Jumat Prayer attended by the President on Friday and the Eid Prayer which was held two weeks ago.

Many Nigerians are always a concern when they see President Buhari sitting on a chair while other worshippers are sitting on the mat.

Some believed that the president is above others.Some also speculated that the president is ill and unfit to sit like the others.

However, I have made some little research about the possible reason why Buhari always chooses to sit on a chair when praying in the mosque.

First, we should know that Islam preaches equality. It doesn’t give regard to your political or economic status.

All worshippers are equal before Almighty Allah when praying in the mosque.This means that President Buhari’s action is not because of his position or influence.

It is important for us to note that Islam is not a rigid religion, it is moderate and always cater for all situations.

Islam permits one to pray while sitting under certain conditions. When you are sick and unfit to stand or sit on the mat, it is permissible to use the chair.

Also, the aged are permitted to use the chair for prayer.If you are not comfortable with sitting, you can pray while lying down.

That’s one of the beauties of Islam.The most valid reason why President Muhammad Buhari uses a chair for prayer to be that he is sick or too weak to stand or sit on the mat.

When we factor his age in this discussion, you can deduce that he uses the auxiliary chair due to waist or back pain.

I’m not sure if the president also performs his rukh and sujuud while sitting on the chair because the video of the events has to be released for the public.

Whichever one of the two, we should know that the president’s action invalid and in accordance with Islamic rulings.
