Whatever happened to the actors who used to dominate Nollywood blockbusters? These are the stars of Nollywood we no longer hear about.
Nigeria's film industry is a fuckin, 'messy environment. It is never a sure thing how many actors grow to fame when others fall into obscurity. Next year's big stars could be totally off the map by 2021 and the next big celebrity could also be someone who has yet to be discovered. Sometimes actors at the top of their game commit huge mistakes that destroy their reputation, while at other times actors do nothing wrong and the winds of change replace them with their "newer model." With so much talent entering and leaving the limelight, here are the 10 actors from Nollywood that we no longer hear of: 1. Saint Obi Saint Obi grew out of a glamorous career in television that established him as a star in Nollywood action movies. 'State of Emergency' tops the list of all the action movies he'd starred in. At one point he may have had a bright future but he suddenly faded away. 2. Francis Duru Francis' absence at Nollywood is a real shame because he was one of the industry's best actors at one stage. It doesn't seem fair simply that he'd fade away. The worst thing about the fall from popularity of Francis Duru, however, is that he didn't even do anything wrong but just slowly became less and less important. 3. Clem Ohameze Clem Ohameze's film roles always referred to him as occult, but he still found a way to become a household name. The string of lackluster films, however, which were met with him always playing the role of blood money or occult leader, began boring Nigerians. 4. Tony Umez Another star, Tony Umez, is no longer getting as much coverage. In the early 2000s, Tony had a good run of movies such as 'A Second Time' and 'Fire on the Mountain.' His absence from Nollywood remains a mystery until today. 5. Charles Okafor Charles Okafor used to be one of the elite of Nollywood, but now it is clear that the actor's sdays are far behind him. However it has reports that he is a pastor now. Was God calling him on? I leave you to reply. 6. Emeka Ike In the early 2000s Emeka Ike was a pure fire. He was the image of an actor who has stole the heart of many people. There was a time when Emeka Ike had been the ingredient for a good romantic film. But a solid string of poor films and regrettable romantic films started turning Emeka Ike into a nobody in the industry. 7. Chidi Mokeme In the early 2000s Emeka Ike was a pure fire. He was the image of an actor who has stole the heart of many people. There was a time when Emeka Ike had been the ingredient for a good romantic film. But a solid string of poor films and regrettable romantic films started turning Emeka Ike into a nobody in the industry. 8. Ernest Obi Is it really possible to damage your reputation for behaving too stiffly? Ernest Obi seems to be the proof of this, because his career in Nollywood faded too quickly despite seemingly getting all the good looks. 9. Bob-Manuel Udokwu Bob-Manuel Udokwu is another actor who has done nothing wrong but Nollywood has just moved on and lost his way in the shuffle. 10. Emeka Enyiocha Emeka Enyiochavstory feels a bit tragic as he appears to be a good actor but with no connection to Nollywood's 'goas at the top.' It looks like time has passed for Emeka Enyiocha, but perhaps he'll still be able to surprise everyone. Do you miss any of Nollywood's former finest? Let me know in the comments
