Oyo Apprehends Illegal Business Operators
Oyo apprehends illegal business operators by Sammie(m): Thu 07, May, 2020 12:38am
Oyo State Government has apprehended eight persons for allegedly operating a block-making industry on the premises of Community Basic School, Ologuneru.

This followed zero-tolerance for unlawful occupation and operation on the premises of public schools.

The recently completed model school under the FGN-UBEC/OYOSUBEB intervention project is situated at Agbopa-Akufo Farm Settlement in Ido Local Government.

Speaking during the monitoring, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran, expressed displeasure about the level of impunity the team experienced at the school, which he noted would not go unpunished.

The arrest was sequel to enforcement and monitoring exercise conducted by the Oyo SUBEB, aimed at protecting public school facilities and infrastructure during the COVID-19 stay-at-home period for pupils.

Adeniran said the invasion had constituted security risk to the school, adding that classrooms, toilets and boreholes had been destroyed by the owners of the block-making industry.

“In fact, they have turned one of our classrooms into a bedroom, with their belongings scattered around the school,” he said.

Adeniran said: “At some locations, these illegal operators and invaders have taken over some of our public schools, despite that these schools are fenced. They forcefully break in, destroy government properties and create nuisance at government schools across the state.”

He said the illegal business operators would be arraigned and prosecuted, to deter others.

The Nation learnt that a section of the premises was used for moulding block and another section for arranging blocks.

It was gathered that the illegal operators started using the land since the Coronavirus started ravaging the state.
