This Morning In Nigeria


1. BREAKING: Nigeria records 148 new COVID-19 cases, total now 2950
Nigeria on Tuesday night recorded 148 new cases of coronavirus.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced new cases via its twitter page, bringing the country’s total infections to 2950.

According to a tweet from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC), Lagos State recorded 43 cases, Kano State had 32 cases, Zamfara recorded 14 cases, FCT Abuja had ten cases, Kastina state recorded nine cases, Taraba State had Seven cases, Borno and Ogun State recorded six cases each, Oyo had five cases, Edo and Kaduna and bauchi recorded Three cases each, Adamawa and Gombe State recorded two cases each while plateau, sokoto and Kebbi state record single case each.

2. More troubles for Ondo deputy governor
Things have fallen apart between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi.

The governor is seeking re-election. The disagreement centres around the deputy governor’s governorship ambition. Will Agboola run against his boss at the primary? OSAGIE OTABOR asks.

It is no longer news that Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi is no longer in the know on how Ondo State is being run. Things have fallen apart between him and his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN). As a result, Ajayi is no longer seen at public functions.

3. Kogi West: Adeyemi, APC close case against Melaye
Senator Smart Adeyemi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday closed their cases at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja over last year’s Kogi West rerun.

Adeyemi won the poll with a margin of over 25,000; the highest in the history of the senatorial district. However, the runner up in the election, Dino Melaye, petitioned the tribunal, claiming that he was the winner.

Counsel to Adeyemi and APC, Dr. Otitoju Oladapo and M. Abdullahi, closed their cases without calling a witness, saying the petitioner’s position was enough to support their prayers to uphold the election.

Femi Adesina has said the fact that Nigerians elected a president doesn't mean they have to order the President around. He said this when he appeared on Nigeria Info FM today May 5.

He made the statement while responding to a caller, Mr Ibikunle, who asked him to ensure President Buhari holds a media chat with men of the Nigerian press.
