Reasons Why Federal Government Plans To Isolate Returnees In Hotels by Sammie(m): Wed 29, April, 2020 09:55am
It was earlier reported on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama that The Federal Government has reserved hotel rooms in Lagos and Abuja for Nigerians returning from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

This move by the federal government is very essential as one of the best ways to tackle this Covid-19 pandemic as most of the people that were first infected by this virus were travel returnees.

The minister confirmed that some hotels in Lagos and Abuja are now in concord with the government in bid to accommodate travel returnees to be isolated in their hotels for 14 days once they arrive in the country.

It should be recalled that many of the hotels in Lagos were earlier reluctant to allow their premises to be used as isolation centers because of the fears of stigmatization of their brand, for over 2,000 Nigerians awaiting evacuation abroad.

Coronavirus cases in Nigeria have rapidly increased because many abroad returnees have been allowed to self-isolate and many of them flouted the rules and made contact with a lot of people as Nigeria Center For Disease Control-NCDC reported during many contact tracing that most people that tested positive for Covid-19 have had contact with an abroad returnee in one way or the other.

Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has been one of the most active personality in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic since its outbreak in the country, as he was again of great assistance in negotiating the hotels booking rates where travels returnee citizens will be quarantined for two weeks on arrival to ascertain their status.

Lagos and Abuja have the highest cases of Covid-19 because they are the major destination points for travelers entering the country and as such this move to isolate abroad returnees will definitely yield a positive result as the chances of making contact with new returnees already infested by the virus will be minimal.
