Most BBNaija Winners End Up Looking Broke’ – Deji Adeyanju Questions Reality Show Payouts(pix) by Johnyessence(m): Tue 07, October, 2025 01:46pm
Human rights activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has sparked conversation online after questioning why most Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winners appear to struggle financially despite the huge cash prizes announced at the end of each season. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Adeyanju expressed skepticism about whether winners actually receive their full ?120 million prize money, following the conclusion of the recently ended BBNaija Season 10, which crowned Imisi as the latest champion.

He wrote: “Do they really give BBNaija winners the prize money? The reason I’m asking is because many of them end up looking extremely broke thereafter.”
Adeyanju’s Observation Sparks Reactions

The lawyer’s post has triggered widespread debate among fans of the reality show, with many sharing mixed opinions. Some supported his view, arguing that several past winners seem to fade financially after their victory, while others suggested that poor financial management and lack of investment planning might be the real issue.
A Look at Past BBNaija Winners

Since its debut in 2006, Big Brother Naija has produced a string of winners who have become public figures in entertainment and business:

Katung Aduwak (2006) – the show’s pioneer winner.
Efe (2017) – known for his street-inspired music career.
Miracle (2018) – ventured into aviation and entrepreneurship.
Mercy Eke (2019) – became the first female winner and a notable influencer.
Laycon (2020) – leveraged his fame to launch a successful music career.
Whitemoney (2021) – explored hospitality and entertainment.
Phyna (2022) and Ilebaye (2023) – each made waves as young, outspoken champions.
Imisi (2024) – the latest winner, now under public scrutiny.

While some winners have maintained relevance and stability, others have seemingly struggled to sustain their fame or wealth, fueling Adeyanju’s concerns.

As conversations continue online, Nigerians are once again questioning the transparency of reality show prize disbursements and the financial literacy of those who emerge victorious.
