It's not easy to be a Man in this Country. And for the young guys,the struggle is real. But it baffles me how most guys who are struggling financially have no restraint when it comes to spending.One minute they are living in abundance,the next minute,they are broke.

If you are planning on building your income overtime, or planning to save so as to buy one or two, here are some tips I have put together on how young guys can track their expenses,save more money and increase their income.

Learn how to cook your own food

If you are a bachelor living alone and you don't know how to cook, it means you spend approximately #900 eating out everyday. Some of you have girlfriends or female friends coming around once in a while to make food for you but it's not enough.

There's nothing stopping you from knowing how to cook especially if you are a student. Let your Female friends teach you or learn from the internet or buy a cook book. You will definitely become a pro with time.

Is it even wise to have a girl cook for you all the time? If you really take your time to ponder on it, it's not safe.

Keep one girlfriend or no girlfriend till you are financially stable

Girlfriends are almost always a liability. It's funny how guys are always acquiring girlfriends as though they are assets. Is it a competition?

You listen to your friends talking about how many babes they have and you want to give double dating a trial. Do you know how much it costs to maintain one Nigerian girlfriend? And you, who is always broke is dreaming of having three.

Stick with one babe and be thankful she agreed to date you in your brokenness.

Drinking


When a guy gets his paycheck, am sure 40% of it goes into 'drinking with the boys'. There's this joy guys derive from going out to drink with their guys but If you are looking at squeezing out More money to save, then you must reduce how much you spend on drinks.

This means you have to stop frequenting bars and clubs. The financial benefits of this are many:

Reduce chances of meeting pretty bombshells that would attract you like magnet , flash you a smile,and the next thing you are buying them drinks.


Reduced chances of getting drunk and going home with a runs girl(except she's paying you)

There's always someone that wants you to buy them drinks.

Drinks sold at the clubs are way too expensive,yet it's hard to stop at one and with the music and all, you get carried away and start ordering for meat or suya or barbecue fish(more expenses)

If you have a refrigerator, then you should stock it with drinks .

Quit Smoking

If you smoke, it's time to quit. If you add up the money you spend on smoking everyday, you could buy a car in 3 years ( maybe).

Minimize how much You Spend on your girlfriend

You don't need a high maintenance girlfriend if you are planning on tracking your expenses and keeping them in check.

You need not be stingy but be wise.

Don't spend all your money buying sharwama and pizzas.

Think of other creative ways to spend time together apart from going on expensive dates every other night. Like watching a movie at home, Playing board games together, or simply cooking and romantic dinners.

Nothing stops you from buying drinks and clubbing at home over loud music (except you have envious neighbours of course)

Encourage your girlfriend to minimize spending too. It's safer if the two of you have an understanding and work towards this together.


If your girlfriend is not willing to adjust and is still expecting you to cater for her lavish lifestyle, Well, babe bye! You are not her Father.

Stop patronizing Sex Worker

The reason for this is legion. It's expensive, it's a waste of money, it could be addictive, you could contract an infection thereby spending money treating it.

Start doing your own laundry

If you have been giving them to the dry cleaners, now is the time to stop Am sure you have hands to wash/iron your clothes yourself. Every Kobo is precious right now.

Stop Betting

Sport betting is risky. And each time you keep telling yourself that you will stop when you win and you don't. There's always one more and it never ends.

It's a Wonder how guys always spend money on airtime, calling random girls. I hope this is not you.

Lastly, It's important to watch the type of friends you hang out with because trust me,they are your biggest influence. If you move around with wildcats that are always throwing money around, you could find yourself spending more than you budgeted for.

These friends could make you seem Small and Poor.
