Adamawa State said on Thursday that it was tracing 84 people who made contact with the state index case that was discovered on Wednesday.

The state Chairman of COVID-19 Containment Committee, Bashiru Ahmad, said the 84 persons whom the index case came in contacts with in Yola had been enlisted for tracing through its contact tracing mechanism.

Bashiru, who spoke in a programme monitored on AIT said, “ We have informed our colleagues in Kano that our index case in Yola is a returnee from Kano. But here in Yola our contact tracing mechanism has identified 84 persons the journalist has primary and secondary contacts with.”

He explained that the contact tracing has led the surveillance team to the mosque, the correspondent chapel and a place the index case frequently visits, adding that eight samples had so far been collected.

Meanwhile, the index case has said he is optimistic of being discharged soon because his COVID-19 infection is at its recovery stage.

The man who spoke to The PUNCH on Thursday noted that since he tested positive for coronavirus he had yet to be given any drug.
