Update on June 16 Schools Reopening

Since 30 March, 2020 when the government of President Muhammad Buhari announced total lock down as a measure to curb the spread of the novel Covid19 disease in the country. All the schools in the country went into lock down. And there has been an urgent need to reopening schools so that students can return back to their schools and learning.

The government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid19 and Federal Ministry of Education have been working assiduously to make sure that students will go back to their schools and their various learnings. Schools have been fumigated to make sure that the environment is free and safe for learning.

The government of Cross River State is the first to announce reopening of schools within the state.

The governor of the state, Ben Ayade on Saturday, 11 June note that the state is ready to start its schools on the 16 June.

This news was not well welcome. As many people and organisations came out publicly to criticise the government decision. The first being the Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River State Chapter.

Their position on the matter is that it is not necessarily the time to reopening the schools since the nation is still recording increasing number of cases in some states.

It is worthy to note that Cross River State has not record any case of Corona virus. NMA on this regard said that with the limited number of tests carried out we should not conclude yet that there is no case of Corona virus in the state.

It is most likely that the state may relent towards reopening of schools in the state on Tuesday, what do you think?

Thanks
