The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have taken into custody two artiste, a musician and an instrumentalist, including five others, after they were arrested for alleged robbery at their residence, 4, Modupe Young Thomas Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
According to DailyTrust, the two primary suspects are by the name Micheal Chinonso, a 25-year-old upcoming Afro hip-hop singer, and Victory Chimelu. However, they disclosed to the police that they were forced into robbery by the need to survive hunger caused by the COVID-19 Lockdown The police disclosed that the two suspects had ordered an iPhone 11 Pro Max from Jiji, and to pay on delivery at the value of N450,000. So when the delivery man arrived, who is by name Anifowoshe Itunu, the supposed buyer, Chinonso, generated a fake alert to him and thereafter tied him down with the help of others and later escaped from the apartment. They also confessed that they sold the iPhone 11 Pro Max at N350,000 to a buyer in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos., They further said that it was the third time they would be selling an iPhone 11 Pro Max during the COVID-19 lockdown, which they also acquired through internet fraud and stolen credit cards. Upon their arrests, reports have it they tried to escape the building, as Chinonso jumped from their residence’s storey building to hard ground naked, but was later apprehended while running in the streets. He was admitted in a hospital after landing with bruises before the interrogation. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, confirmed the arrests and vow not not to allow criminals to use the internet as an avenue to exploit legitimate business owners. Nevertheless, we know the COVID-19 times accompanied by hunger are hard, but that is not enough reasons to involve in crime. A Twitter user opined.
