Six weeks after a pipeline explosion rocked the Abule-Ado community, the Lagos State Government has presented cheques to families of the 23 deceased victims of the explosion. Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who presented the cheques to the families, shared it with the Twitter community on Wednesday afternoon. “We hope the money will help provide some relief even as they miss their loved ones,†he said in his tweet. We hope the money will help provide some relief even as they miss their loved ones. We are also working with safety, power & other stake holders to find a lasting solution to issues. He noted that the state is working assiduously with stakeholders in the safety and power sector to find a solution to issues in the sector, and prevent the repeat of such a catastrophe. The explosion Residents of Abule-Ado district in the Amuwo-odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State had awoken to a loud blast on Sunday, March 15, 2020. The blast, which shook buildings to their foundations, was later discovered to have resulted from a gas pipeline explosion. Nairametrics had reported that many people lost their lives, with several persons injured. Over 50 houses and vehicles worth millions of naira also got destroyed in the explosion. Subsequently, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had set up an N2 billion relief fund headed by the Deputy Governor to support the survivors.
