The lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun kicked of 3 months ago, but with time as the pandemic began to spread across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari announced a nation wide lockdown which had seen total closure of the country, as civil servant had to stay at home, but the government promised to continue to pay their monthly salary in full to enable them cope with the effects of the hardship caused by the coronavirus, three months into this crisis Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume representing, Borno South, Borno State, Nigeria has called on the Nigerian senate to commence the implementation of slashing the monthly salary of civil servants in Nigeria by half.

Senator Ndume made this call today during a senate session, when he explained that since civil servant have been at home for three month without working, they should be ready to accept half pay with palliative, Senator Ndume said in his statement that civil servant should be ready to make this sacrifice, as he country is battling a common enemy and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a huge toll on the Nigerian economy. Sadly for civil servant across the country the salary slash trend may have already commenced as civil servants in Kano State have expressed displeasure after their May salaries were slashed in what the State government explained as effects of the COVID-19 crisis. It was recalled that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje previously announced a 50 per cent slash in the salaries of political officeholders. The angry civil servants in Kano State have been kicking against the unexpected salary slash, what angered them the most was that the state government took them for granted and did not inform them before this drastic action was taken. But Nigeria received $1.2 billion COVID-19 funds, should this money not have covered for all the loopholes and help cussion the effect of this pandemic on the economy why do civil servant have to suffer for it, when Nigeria has been producing and selling crude oil for the past 32 years.
