If you are uncertain about your pregnancy status and not comfortable about visiting the doctor, you can easily use a simple homemade remedy that have proven to be an accurate pregnancy test technique for decades.

The major ingredient you need is table salt. Yes, salt used for cooking.

Using salt as a homemade pregnancy test will satisfy your curiosity quickly while giving you the answers you seek in a familiar space—your home.

But before starting the test procedure you should know that to get accurate results, you have to wait until your body starts producing sufficient amounts of the hCG hormone.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone normally produced by the placenta. If you are pregnant, you can detect it in your urine. Blood tests measuring hCG levels can also be used to check how well your pregnancy is progressing, including your baby’s development.

So your body will produce sufficient amount of hCG around one week after you miss your period. Anything earlier than one week could lead to inaccurate results.

To get accurate result, don’t drink too much water before the pregnancy test. Too much water could dilute your urine and make it hard to get correct results. This is a fact to note if you want to know how to test pregnancy with salt.

How to conduct the Test

The hCG hormone will react when it comes in contact with salt, which should let you know if you’re pregnant or not. So salt is the major ingredient needed for the test.

Other items needed include:

A timer to time the duration of the test (your phone timer will do a fine job)!
Your first (preferably early morning) urine
A clear, transparent cup or jar
2 pinches of salt
Procedure

Urinate into the clear container or cup (remember that fresh, early morning urine works best)
Add two pinches of salt to the urine sample
Stir the salt-urine combo to mix it well
Set the timer to 5 minutes and wait till the time elapses
Watch for changes
Indicators

A milky foam in the mixture shows that you are pregnant while a foamless or clear mixture shows that you are not pregnant.

After knowing your pregnancy status using this procedure, you need to visit the hospital to get some blood test done at a more convenient time.

NB: Home tests might be convenient, but not fool-proof and scientifically proven. It is always better to get a proper pregnancy kit to test or visit a doctor to confirm further
