Know your Genotype before you say "I do"
opera.com In recent times, we see a lot of abnormalities in children due to wrong combination of parental genotype. It is forgivable that our forefathers made the mistakes of not checking their medical compatibility with their partners ( due to ignorance or lack of adequate information) before getting married thereby producing children with sickle cell. On the other hand, it will be unforgivable if the current generation make same mistakes of getting involved in a relationship without first knowing their medical compatibility. What then is Genotype? The genotype is the part of the genetic makeup of a being and therefore of any individual, which determines one of its characteristics. The genotype is one of three factors that determine phenotype, along with inherited factors and non-inherited environmental factors. Not all individual with the same genotype look or act the same way because appearance and behavior are modified by environmental and growing conditions. Likewise, not all individuals that look alike necessarily have the same genotype. Therefore, before you take that long walk down the aisle with your partner, please know these genetic combinations.
