If you find this "unknown" animal in your farm or area, do not kill it. It has medicinal value The Gila monster is a species of venomous lizard native to the southwestern United States and the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. It is however rarely found in Africa. The heavy, typically slow-moving lizard, up to 60 cm (2.0 ft) long, the Gila monster is the only venomous lizard native to the United States and one of only two known species of venomous lizards in world. Although the Gila monster is venomous, its sluggish nature means it represents little threat to humans. However, it has acquired a fearsome reputation, and is sometimes killed and disposed due to ignorance of it's medicinal value. In humans, the lizard's venomous bite causes extreme pain, a burning sensation and discomfort that can last for hours. Intrigued by its ability to cause such pain, scientists began to study the Gila monster's saliva. Over 30 years, scientists discovered the potential of Gila monster venom as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. Dr Ronald Jenner, venom evolution expert sheds light on what it takes to create a cure with the lizard. He says the lizard is the source of a disgustingly beneficial drug called exenatide. This type 2 diabetes treatment comes not only from the lizard's insides, but also from the Gila monster's saliva. Exenatide has been used to control a diabetics' blood sugar levels by regulating appetite. Researchers at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg used rats to test the effects of the lizard's spit on appetites and found the rodents no longer craved certain foods, such as chocolate. The Gila monster lizard is very medicinal. We also have other animals such as Cameleon, Viper etc that have helped humans medically. Which animals do you know that also have medicinal values?
