It's now more than one week since the death of George Floyd, the African-American who was pinned to the ground until he suffocated to death.
The incident which happened outside a store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was captured on video by a 17-year-old girl called Darnella Frazier. The video which went viral immediately it was uploaded, showed several people behind the camera begging the cop to let go of George Floyd, as he kept pleading that he couldn't breath. Among those who were behind the scene to witness Floyd's death was a 9-year-old girl called Judeah Reynolds. She witnessed how Derek Chauvin kneeled on George Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes without showing him any mercy. When the protests broke out, Judeah Reynolds went back to the arrest site with her mother, Diva Reynolds, to listen to the activist, Rev Al Sharpton. The Guardian reporters caught her sitting sitting just a few yards away from where Floyd was pinned to the ground, with colored markers and a placard in front of her. And on the placard she wrote - IT CAN BE BETTER. If you look closely at the placard in front of her, those are the words written there. In an interview that her mother had with Guardian, she said that they were returning back to Minneapolis from Columbus that Monday. Judeah was walking on the sidewalk with a relative, when she came upon the violence. She even joined others to plead with the police officer to let go of George Floyd, as he kept saying that he couldn't breath. I am particularly touched by the words of this little girl - IT CAN BE BETTER. The girl is really strong. A girl of her age would have been very traumatized by what she saw, but she still had the bravery and strength to return back to the arrest site and join in the protests, in her own little way. During the interview, her mother said that she kept reminding her of the words that George Floyd said when he was dying, that he couldn't breath. She said that was wrong. Even at that young age, she knows that what Derek did was wrong. Meanwhile, George Floyd's family has set June 9th, as the date for his funeral. And we hope that his death will bring an end to police brutality against the black people in America, and the entire world. And may the effects of the little girl, Judeah Reynolds, not be in vain
