Police arrested one of the suspects of the murder of Miss Vera Uwalia Omozuwa after identifying him with his fingerprints.
Omozuwa, a 22-year-old college student at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in the state of Edo, was raped and killed by an unknown person while reading in church. Her head was crushed with a box of firefighters and she was in a coma. She died in the hospital three days later. Chidi Nwabuzor, the police command spokesman, confirmed the arrest and told reporters that the suspect had been arrested after checking the fire extinguisher for fingerprints. Nwabuzor revealed that command staff arrested the suspects after the Ikpoba hill commander mobilized officials to take action. "The substance used in the attack, which was a fire extinguisher, was found. Staff who along with several specialists checked the fingerprints that caused our suspect," Nwabuzor said. "The suspect was arrested around the scene of the incident." Police said the suspect was identified after his fingerprints were found at the fire department Police inspector general Mohammed Abubakar meanwhile said in a statement that investigative assistance had been used on Edo to speed up the investigation. He demanded calm and assured that the armed forces would arrest all the perpetrators of these horrific acts as soon as possible. He also sympathized with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
