The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has responded to the dissemination of pictures and recordings of new N2,000 and N5,000 banknotes in the nation.

Gossips making rounds during the weekend suggested that there was a circulation of 2,000 and 5,000 naira notes in the country.

This however isn't the first time such stunt is being pulled,

In January this year, a viral video was leaked asserting that the CBN has officially launched the new 2,000 and 5,000 naira notes, however these claims we're debunked. Recently these claims have resurfaced.

Be that as it may, the CBN on its official Twitter page, said such recordings and pictures of N2000 banknotes was phony and bogus.

The post read: "Recordings and pictures of indicated dissemination of N2,000:00 and N5,000:00 banknotes are bogus and counterfeit."

The management of the CBN further urged the general public to neglect such unconfirmed claims by notorious elements in the society and to report anybody found possessing such banknotes to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
