COVID-19: Pastor Chris Okotie fires back at CAN over social distancing in churches by Bomattech(m): Mon 01, June, 2020 08:49am
The Senior Pastor of the Household of God Church, Pastor Chris Okotie, has kicked against the guidelines proposed by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) forreopening of churches, callingthem “unbiblical”.Religious gatherings have been banned in several states in Nigeria for weeks, as part ofmeasures to curtail the spread of COVID-19.Last Thursday, CAN released a 10-point directive, to be presented to the federal government for approval.CAN president, Samson Ayokunle, in the statement proposed that churches should strictly observe social distancingduring services.Okotie, however, kicked against the proposal, saying, “Social distancing in the Church of Jesus Christ is tantamount to blasphemous infidelity and an impeachment of the integrity of the word of God.“Healing is fundamental to the redemptive work of Jesus. To allow the idol of coronavirus todetermine the scope of congregational worship in the house of God is an abomination of gargantuan proportions,” Okotie’s statement on Sunday, read in part.
