Suya is a spicy meat skewer which is a popular food item in West Africa. It is also eaten in Sudan, referred to as "Agashe". Suya is generally made with skewered beef, ram, or chicken. Innards such as kidney, liver and tripe are also used. In Nigeria, it is largely consumed in the North with suya stands in almost everystreet. Every evening, people of different caliber and social standings gather to buy suya.

Now in times like this where maintaining the best hygiene is key to not getting infected by the Nobel Coronavirus, consumption of suya might be dangerous due to the fact that those managing these stands have little or no education and place little importance on maintaining proper or any hygiene at all. Washing of hands with soap and water, and the use of hand sanitizers are seen as a waste of time by those who constitute a greater part of the suya sellers. Thereby endangering the lives of those buying suya if the seller is already a carrier of the Coronavirus.

Also research has shown that droplets from an infected person can stay some hours on surfaces which backs the point that those papers used by the suya sellers to serve buyers can be dangerous if it has passed through an infected person.

The suya sellers might not be the real issue but the distributor of these papers which is preferably old news papers, could pose a great danger. If the distributor is infected with Coronavirus, the chances that the user might be infected would be high since it's a direct hand to mouth process.

Alot of these men instead of washing their hands after every sale where they directly use their hands to collect cash and give out cash change, Prefers to clean those hands on their Aprons and make the next sales. All of these things can be considered dangerous to the next person who ends up eating these meats in contaminated papers or from a contaminated source.

Alot of things we love so much would be sacrificed just to stay alive and if suya is one of them, then let's abstain from it for the moment until all these are over and we can happily go back to our suya eating.
