Lauretta Onochie, a media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has claimed that the federal government didn’t buy the Madagascar’s COVID-19 vaccine as speculated around.

She said the vaccine is a gift made available by the President of Madagascar to African leaders. And since it’s a gift, such gesture can’t be returned.

Onochie made this claim while reacting to the agitation of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), who are unhappy with the move to import the vaccine while we have some credible and able Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria that can produce same local vaccine if supported.

But in her reaction, Onochie said PSN “got it wrong.”

Highlighting why the presidency opted for the vaccine, she said: “Madagascar gifted their Organic Covid-19 drink to African countries. Pres. @MBuhari was informed. He approved the acceptance of the gift and plans are underway to bring them in. Its unAfrican to reject gifts from a brother
